Kindling: Igniting Reconciliation Across Industry
Kindling is a professional toolkit designed to create meaningful change to the state of reconciliation between First Nations Peoples and non-Indigenous people in Australia. It addresses the challenges small to medium enterprises face in taking genuine action by targeting persistent barriers in knowledge, accountability, and engagement. Kindling empowers business leaders to guide their teams and organisations towards embracing education and truth-telling, strengthening accountability and engagement, and demonstrating ethical leadership that goes beyond industry compliance and tokenism.
The Kindling toolkit consists of three interconnected components. First, a self-paced, interactive educational journal allows leaders to independently reflect on their knowledge, deepen their understanding, and develop the skills needed to drive effective organisational action. Second, collaborative activities aligned with the journal enable leaders to apply these skills in practice, actively engaging teams in the reconciliation journey. Third, a collaboratively created office mural visually represents each organisation’s unique journey, reinforcing commitment and accountability to both internal and external stakeholders.
Through Kindling, reconciliation in the workplace becomes structured, safe, and meaningful. While businesses and their leaders are the primary users, the ultimate beneficiaries are First Nations peoples, employees, and communities. By guiding organisations to take thoughtful, informed, and sustained action, Kindling contributes to a more unified and inclusive Australia.
