UQ Graduation Hall
The Graduation Hall takes it’s form from the sloping terrain of the site. It maintains visibility from the Forgan Smith Building (the University’s traditional front door) through the it’s interior and across to the campus to the riverside parklands and the city beyond. The building is primarily timber and glass, to preserve the area’s space and light, and to minimise it’s solid volume. Light enters the building from all sides allowing both inward and outward views. The large timber battens around the facade are placed to enhance the views in privileged spaces. The profuse use of hardwoods creates internal warmth and atmosphere, and pays tribute to traditional Queensland building materials and methods.
